Italian Football Federation has announced that it will ask UEFA to postpone the 2020 European Championships so that his country's clubs can complete their domestic season.
Football in Italy has been suspended indefinitely as the deadly coronavirus ravages the country. Italy is the most affected country outside of China with at least 24,000 infected people and 1,800 deaths.
Euro 2020 is scheduled to begin in mid-June but there are growing fears as to whether or not the tournament - which is being held in 12 different countries across the continent - can realistically be held as the world grapples with Covid-19.
Italian FA president Gabrielle Gravina on Sunday told sports channel SportMediaset that they will formally request for a delay to the championships.
"We will try to get to the end of this domestic championship because it is fairer and more correct after the many investments and sacrifices of our clubs."
The highly contagious virus has spread rapidly in several countries since it was first reported in the Chinese province of Wuhan. It has caused some countries to suspend their footballing activities, including England, Italy, Spain, and Germany.
The World Health Organization (WHO) have already classified the coronavirus as a pandemic.
Coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, has spread to at least 156 countries infecting 162,000 people and left 6,000 dead
