🇹🇿 Tanzania postpones Turkey training camp over coronavirus fears

Tanzania national team's plans to camp for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers as well as African Nations Championships have been postponed.

The Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) had announced that the team was supposed to camp in Turkey before travelling to Tunisia for AFCON qualifiers before hosting the reverse leg in Dar es Salaam.

CAF on Saturday cancelled AFCON qualifiers after the deadly coronavirus swept through Africa. 29 countries have reported positive cases with the continent having a total of 293 cases and six deaths.

Tanzania confirmed its first positive case on Monday evening.

Foreign-based players were supposed to leave camp after qualifiers while local-based players were to continue with their preparations for the sixth edition of CHAN.

“Everything has been changed as our team will no longer travel to Turkey as we have also been forced to cancel tickets for six players who were to join teammates in Tunisia ahead of the Afcon duel,” said Danny Msangi, the team coordinator.

Foreign-based players invited by coach Etienne Ndayijigene include Abdi Banda who plays in South Africa, Robert Mapigano Kissu (Kenya), Simon Msuva, Nickson Kibabage (Morocco), Himid Mao (Egypt), Farid Mussa (Spain) and Mbwana Samatta (England).

Reports indicate that locally-based players will go ahead with a training camp in Dar es Salaam as CHAN is yet to be postponed or cancelled.

CAF's medical experts are expected to make a decision over the coronavirus scare in Cameroon and whether the CHAN finals should be staged there from April 4 to 25. Cameroon has reported two cases of the deadly COVID-19, which has shredded sports schedules across the globe.
