The Absa Cup quarter-finals round will no longer take place, says the Football Association of Zambian (FAZ).
FAZ has taken healthy and safety priorities ahead of proceeding with the coming weekend’s Absa Cup fixtures at the Nkoloma Stadium - with the Coronavirus outbreak serving as the main cause.
The affected clubs are Zesco United, Nkana, Forest Rangers, Napsa Stars, Kabwe Warriors, Green Eagles, Kitwe United and Young Green Eagles.
Zambia Minister of Health Chitalu Chilufya was the bearer of bad news to confirm the country as two confirmed cases of Corona.
FAZ League Manager Brian Mulenga confirmed the fixtures cancellation: “After receiving guidance from the Ministry of Health we regret to inform that the ABSA Cup quarterfinals are postponed to a date to be communicated,” Mulenga revealed in the statement.
“In view of the current situation in the country vis a vis the coronavirus we are unable to go forward with the ABSA Cup as public events of this magnitude are no longer tenable,” Mulenga added.
