Brescia President calls for Serie A cancellation

Brescia president, Massimo Cellino, has called for the cancellation of Serie A season due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Italy has been the worst-hit nation since the virus began sweeping the world with more than 4,800 people having died as a result.

Speaking to Corriere dello Sport, Cellino said: “You don’t have to think about when to start again, but if you survive. Everything has to be moved to the next season. It is time for realism, gentlemen. This is the plague.

“You can no longer play this year. Think about the next one. Some people still do not realize what is happening, and those people are worse than the virus. I don’t believe in miracles, I stopped doing it long ago. We reset.”

Cellino, who owned Leeds between 2014 and 2017, further belives that teams like Lazio and Napoli who are reportedly eager to return to training were cursed.

“Anyone who wants this cursed (title) takes it. It is closed. Finished. And I am not saying this because Brescia is last in the standings. We are last because we deserve it,” he added.

Brescia was bottom of Serie A before Italy suspended all games on 9 March.
