Paris Saint Germain forward Angel Di Maria has revealed that he tore a letter from Real Madrid after they requested that he sits out of the 2014 World Cup Final.
Di Maria in an interview revealed that he had torn a muscle in their quarterfinal win over Belgium and stood a slight chance of featuring in the final game but he couldn't hear any of it.
Speaking to Telefe, Di Maria said: "The only three who know the truth are Doctor Daniel Martinez, Alejandro Sabella (Coach) and me.
"I had a tear in the game against Belgium, I was about 90%. The leg wasn't totally right but I wanted to play and I didn't care at all if I never played football again.
"It was one of the things I was told could happen but for me, it was a World Cup final, my final."
Di Maria's injury had been leaked to his club Madrid and the club sent him a letter requesting him to sit out of the game after the player gave a man of the match performance in their Champions League final against Atletico Madrid in Lisbon.
But Di Maria who was going to have none of it said: "I knew they wanted to sell me. And so the letter arrived. Daniel told me it was from Real Madrid but I didn't even want to look at it and I tore it up."
Di Maria didn't make the final squad with Sabella preferring Enzo Perez in his position with Argentina falling to Germany by a solitary goal in the game.
