Enyimba FC defender Ifeanyi Anaemia says calling off the NPFL for the Covid-19 pandemic would result in a confusing future.
The league remains in suspension by the national government and LMC as Nigeria comes together to fight the spread of the coronavirus. Nigeria’s state further ordered a 14-day lockdown which means the NPFL’s return will be reviewed mid April.
While many people have suggested the season to be made null & void, Anaemena thinks otherwise.
“We can’t afford to call off the season, it would be a massive setback and will surely have a big effect on the next few seasons,” he said to Brila.
“The season is still very open, we don’t know which club will be the champion, teams that will be relegated and the continental tickets are still up for grab , so stopping the league will lead to confusion.”
“It’s not the only NPFL that has been affected by the current situation, other countries are still waiting to see how they can finish the season, so i think we should do the same too,” he concluded.
From 25 games played, Plateau United remain on top of the league with a four-point lead.
