Plateau United goalkeeper Dele Ajiboye says he remains the number shot-stopper despite featuring for fewer matches in this campaign.
Ajiboye revealed he has struggled with fitness this season having missed United's pre-season training. Chinedu Anozie has deputized in the absence of the experienced goalkeeper, playing most of time for Plateau. The 29-year-old insists he has not lost his place in the team contrary to what many believed.
Speaking to brila.net, Ajiboye said, "I am still the number one for my team, but it just that when the team went for pre-season am not around."
"I start keeping in week seven and If anybody thinks that way ( lost my place in the team), I can’t change that, because in Nigeria we believe that anybody that is playing or keeping is number 1. I went to the USA, then when I came back, it was difficult for me to get my fitness back, but thanks to all my coaches and my teammate that make it be possible for me nearing my best again," he added.
Ajiboye was in the course of securing his second league title with Plateau United as the club was on top of the NPFL table before the suspension of the league due to the outbreak of coronavirus.
