'Most away goals scored' wins Mbokani Belgian Golden Boot

Congolese forward Dieumerci Mbokani has won the 2019-20 Belgian Golden Boot.

The Royal Antwerp marksman scored 18 goals in 28 league matches, and following the cancellation of the Belgian league, he has been awarded the top prize.

The 34-year-old scored the same number of goals as Gent's Canadian youngster Jonathan David, but Mbokani scooped the award thanks to scoring more away goals (six).

He joins the likes of Hamdi Harbaoui, Joseph Akpala, and Tosin Dosumu in the short list of Africans who have won the prize in recent years.

The Belgian Pro-League was on April 2, 2020, canceled as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, with the standings at the time considered final and Club Brugge was awarded the title.

Meanwhile, Mbokani has been linked with a move away from the Belgian side, with Uzbekistan top side Pakthakor Tashkent FK rumored to be his destination.

The Uzbek club had reportedly tabled an offer for the striker in December 2019, but Antwerp rejected the approach.
