Danny Drinkwater reveals the difficulties in his loan spell at Burnley

Danny Drinkwater has opened up on a difficult loan spell he has endured since joining Aston Villa from Chelsea, Birmingham Live reported.

Drinkwater was handed his debut when Villa were handed a 6-1 beating by Manchester City and he went on to make an additional four appearances before the season was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The 30-year-old was also shipped out on another loan during the first half of the 2019/20 season and he signed with Burnley in August; he made a mere two appearances.

He was eventually sent back to his parent club Chelsea with Sean Dyche citing: "There was an incident that was unfortunate and cost a lot more time than we thought. My respect for him as high as a person and a player."

Drinkwater was quizzed about his time at Burnley during an Instagram Live session and he said: "Difficult . . . I expected to do a few runs, train hard and play.

"The gaffer had a certain way and believed in his team. (There is) a great bunch of lads at that club who had a very good team spirit."

Drinkwater's loan deal is set to expire on June 30 and Villa have the option to extend his contract.
