Watford's Troy Deeney finally takes part in club's training

Watford captain Troy Deeney has finally joined his team-mates for a training session since the suspension of the English Premier League in March.

Deeney had initially expressed his opposition to the resumption of the Premier League as he raised concerns over player safety and the welfare of his five-month-old son, who has breathing difficulties.

The midfielder held talks with Professor Jonathan Van-Tam, England's deputy chief medical officer, after which he announced that he will resume training at the club's Lond Colney base.

He was scheduled to join the rest of the squad on Tuesday but he missed due to an illness, unrelated to the coronavirus.

Watford are understood to be holding a double training session on Wednesday, but Deeney is likely to be eased back into action.

Premier League clubs were last month allowed to conduct training for players in small groups before voting last week to begin contact training.

All squads underwent tests - the Premier League's fifth round of testing - on Monday and Tuesday this week, the results of which are expected on Wednesday.

Watford sit outside the Premier League relegation zone on goal difference ahead of the proposed resumption of the season on June 17, with all 92 remaining league fixtures to be televised.
