Bundesliga Roundup: Paderborn relegated as Werder Bremen's survival hopes hang by a thread

Bayern Munich celebrated their eighth successive Bundesliga title on Tuesday night as a Robert Lewandowski goal gave them a 1-0 win away to Werder Bremen.

The Polish striker struck in the 43rd minute, his 31st goal of the campaign, to give them maximum points that extended their dominance.

The win was their 11th straight victory in the Bundesliga, and it put them 10 points clear of Borussia Dortmund, with two matches to play.

The champions however had to play the last 10 minutes with 10 men, after Alphonso Davies was sent off for two yellow card offenses.

At the opposite half of the table, Paderborn were relegated from the league after going down 1-0 to Union Berlin.

The deserved loss left Paderborn bottom of the table on 20 points with two games to play, eight points off Fortuna Duesseldorf, who hold the relegation playoff spot.

Berlin's win means they are now safe as the victory moved them to 12th on 38 points.

Elsewhere, Borussia Monchengladbach boosted their hopes of playing in Europe next season with an emphatic 3-0 home win against Wolfsburg.

Jonas Hofmann scored two first-half goals to put them in command going into the break, and Lars Stindl added a third just after the hour-mark to give them the three points, and three goals.

The win saw them move three points clear of Bayer Leverkusen, who host FC Koln on Wednesday night.

In the last match of the night, Freiburg moved above Hoffenheim after a 2-1 win over Hertha Berlin at the Schwarzwald-Stadion.
