Juventus' stuttering run in the Italian Serie A continued on Wednesday night after a shock 2-0 loss away to lowly-placed Cagliari.
Goals from Luca Gagliano and Giovanni Simeone in the opening half were all the hosts needed to pick a rare win, and condemn the newly-crowned champions to their yet another defeat on the road.
It was a tough night tor their starman Cristino Ronaldo, who failed to close the gap between him and Lazio hitman Ciro Immobile, who scored against Brescia earlier in the night to take his tally to 35, four ahead of the Portuguese.
Maurizio Sarri's side started the match in a slugging manner and paid dearly as they fell behind after just eight minutes with the hosts taking the lead.
Luca Gagliano was put through by Federico Mattiello and he showed brilliant composure inside the box to bury the ball into the back of the net, seconds after Juve had missed the chance to take the lead through Gonzalo Higuain.
Juventus then thought they had equalized on the 16th minute, but Cristiano Ronaldo's effort was correctly ruled out for offside.
The visitors improved after falling behind and put in a more attacking display, coming close a number of occasions.
Leonard Bonucci, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Higuain all came closest to pulling level, but it never happened, and instead, it was Cagliari who doubled their lead.
With two minutes to halftime, Simeone latched on to a precise through ball from Luca Gagliano before unleashing an unstoppable shot inside the left post from the edge of the area for a 2-0 lead.
The second half was a replica of the first, with the hosts enjoying massive possession but little to show for it.
This was the second loss in three matches for the new champions, further putting Maurizio Sarri under more pressure with his future at the club becoming blurry by the day.
