The curtains came down on the 2019/20 Serie A season on Sunday night with a total of five matches.
With the title, Champions League places and Europa League spots all sewn up, most teams played for pride and looked to end the season on a high.
There was however a small matter of relegation that was to be settled on Sunday night, with Genoa, Torino, and Lecce all fighting for survival.
In the end, Lecce were sent packing after a 4-3 home loss to Parma in an entertaining clash.
Genoa, on the other hand, preserved their Serie A status with a 3-0 home win over Verona in a dramatic match that saw three red cards.
Antonio Sanabria gave the hosts the lead after just 13 minutes and doubled their advantage on the 25th minute with a fine effort.
The hosts then went three clear when Romero found the back of the net with a clever finish on the stroke of half-time to give them a 3-0 lead going into the break.
The second half saw all the drama as Romero first saw red for two bookable offenses on the 61st minute before Verona's Sofyan Amrabat and Genoa's Francesco Cassata were given marching orders 91st minute due to unsporting behavior.
In an earlier match, Alfred Duncan and Christian Kouame scored a goal each as Fiorentina ended their campaign with a 3-1 win over relegated SPAL.
Marco D'Alessandro equalized for SPAL, while Eric Pulgar scored the Violets' third deep into injury time for the huge win that saw them move to 10th on the table.
In the other matches on the night, Bologna were forced to settle to a 1-1 draw at home again Torino while Sassuolo suffered a shock 1-0 loss at home to Udinese.
