Serie A giants AS Roma have enquired about the availability of midfielder Fred from Manchester United.
Fred position in the coming season at United has become under threat after the arrival of Donny van de Beek and Roma feels that they can give the Brazilian a new lease of life in Italy.
Fred worked with Roma boss Paulo Fonseca at Shakhtar Donetsk and the coach is said to be interested in a reunion with the player as they seek to challenge Juventus for the Serie A title after being placed under a new owner.
The news comes at a time when the club is believed to have agreed with United over defender Chris Smalling who spent the last season at the club on a loan deal.
Italian outlet TeleRadioStereo reports that a deal between the two clubs is getting close with Smalling set to move on a permanent deal.
Manchester United expect to receive a new bid soon from AS Roma to sell Chris Smalling on a permanent deal. Man Utd board are also working to sign a new CB if a ‘good opportunity’ will be on the market on next weeks. 🔴 #MUFC #ManUtd
