New Chelsea signing Edouard Mendy is delighted to have signed for 'one of the biggest clubs' in world football and is ready to take his game to the next level.
The Senegal international, who is a childhood supporter of the Blues, was signed from French club Rennes on Thursday in a £22 million deal to provide competition for Kepa Arrizabalaga.
In his first interview as a Blue, Mendy spoke into detail about his incredible journey from the French third league to Ligue 1 and now, the Premier League.
!I’m very proud," said Mendy.
"When a club like Chelsea is interested in you, it means you’ve done great work every weekend. Everyone knows Chelsea are one of the biggest clubs in the world, and everyone would like to play for this team, but not everyone can. To have a chance to wear this shirt and defend the club’s colors, it’s a privilege,"
"I have worked very hard; I haven’t taken anything for granted. I was at Marseille, and then Reims, and then Rennes, and now Chelsea. It’s been a constant progression, and now I am ready to continue on that upward path,"
He also spoke about his ambitions at the London club;
"I want to adapt to this league, continue my progression that has been constant for a number of years, and to win. At a club like Chelsea, you have to win,"
It might take a little longer for Mendy to make his debut for Chelsea, as he has not played for over a month now and lacks match fitness.
Mendy became the eighth signing of the current summer transfer window, following the arrivals of Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Xavier Mbuyamba, Ben Chilwell, Malang Sarr, Thiago Silva, and Kai Havertz.
