South Africa's PSL Top Scorers early chart hots up as Bradley Grobler leads

The 2020/21 DStv Premiership is nearly a third finished with the champions Mamelodi Sundowns sitting pretty at the top, but what is unfolding in the scorers log?

South Africa’s PSL and most domestic competitions in Africa have a peculiar reputation of producing low goal-scoring numbers, but this season’s start in Mzansi is showing signs of defying history.

After just nine league games played, the DStv Premiership sees a leading goal poacher on eight goals, while the leading peck of scorers interestingly features two hot attacking midfielders in the chart.

Here’s a look at who’s battling with SuperSport United striker Bradley Grobler at the summit...

  • Bradley Grobler, 32, SuperSport United: Eight goals
  • Mduduzi Mdantsane, 26, Cape Town City: Seven goals
  • Themba Zwane, 31, Sundowns: Seven goals
  • Ruzaigh Gamildien, 31, Swallows FC: Seven goals
  • Luvuyo Memela, 33, AmaZulu: Six goals

Orlando Pirates striker Gabadinho Mhango, and Mamelodi Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile were last season’s joint Golden Boot winners with 16 goals apiece.

Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs legend Collins Mbesuma holds the record with 25 goals in the 2004/5.
