Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has sent a message to the club's fans, following their exit from the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.
The Reds suffered a 2-0 defeat in the hands of their rivals, which ended their hopes of a first title this season.
Despite starting brightly, United faded as the game wore on, with second-half goals from John Stones and Fernandinho securing the win.
Fernandes, who started the match, took to his social media to express his disappointment at the defeat.
“I’m very sad and disappointed to once again not reach a final," Fernandes posted.
“We have a lot to fight for yet, but we have to learn and understand that we can’t make the same mistakes anymore. We need to make an effort to further improve and be able to fight for trophies!”
Fernandes echoed coach Ole Gunnar Solskajer's sentiments, saying he was unhappy in how they conceded goals and eventually lost the tie.
“City can score many great goals, and you can accept that, but when you concede from two set-plays, simple ones that we should have cleared, we are very disappointed," he said after the match.
" It was very, very disappointing. We didn’t [do enough]. Clearly, we didn’t. We didn’t create enough big chances ourselves, they didn’t create too many big ones either, but we just didn’t have the extra finesse that we have had in the games lately, in the league, in those tight games that we won. We weren’t good enough today and when you concede two set-plays, it is very disappointing.”
This was Ole Gunnar's fourth semi-final loss in a year, having suffered similar heartache in the FA Cup, Carabao Cup and the Europa League during teh 2019/20 season.
