Arsenal have been handed a major injury boost with Gabriel Martinelli set to return to action as soon as Monday after reports his ankle injury isn't serious.
Martinelli picked up an ankle injury during Arsenal's warm-up ahead of FA Cup third-round tie against Newcastle United on Saturday. It was feared the Brazilian could face yet again another lengthy spell on the sidelines after Mikel Arteta said he found the youngster in tears.
"I imagine we are not going to have good news with him," said Arteta after the game.
However, as reported by the Guardian, after the scans, there was no severe damage but will miss the Thursday clash against Crystal Palace and could return on Monday.
Arteta on whether Martinelli is injury prone
"I don’t think Gabriel Martinelli is a particularly injury-prone player, I think he’s a young player who’s come back from a lengthy injury early in his career and isn’t been man-managed well. He needs to be gradually eased in over the next 4 weeks, to avoid another injury."
This will be a massive boost for the north London club that is set to also welcome back the duo of Thomas Partey and Gabriel Magalhães both due to return for the Palace’s visit.
