🏦 Ten transfers that have broken the world record

It's astonishing to think that in 1997, Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima's €26.5m move from Barcelona to Inter was the largest fee any club had ever parted with for a footballer.

The moves gradually kept on getting bigger when R9's compatriot Denílson broke the €30m barrier, switching São Paulo for Real Betis in 1998.

Since Neymar's move to Paris in 2017, there has been a litany of high-profile transfers with Kylian Mbappé, João Félix, Philippe Coutinho, Antoine Griezmann and Ousmane Dembélé all comfortably clearing the €100m mark. However, none of them come close to the price PSG paid for the Brazilian four years ago.

Money has gone exponentially more mad as the years have passed. However, with the Covid pandemic placing increasing strain on club finances around the globe, it seems highly unlikely that we'll see that magical figure eclipsed any time in the foreseeable future.
