Timo Werner has played down criticism he received from Thiago Silva's wife during Chelsea's 1-1 draw with Real Madrid.
Silva's wife Isabelle was among fans who slammed Werner after his lackluster display in Chelsea’s Champions League semi-final first-leg clash against Real Madrid.
"This is karma guys. Every team I go to there is a striker who keeps missing goals… this Werner, what is his name?!," she said in a video uploaded to Instagram.
"We need a goal, we need to win this match but my attackers don’t want to score, I don’t know why they don’t score."
However, the German international confirmed Thiago apologized to him following the social media outburst. The Chelsea man seemed to play the incident down saying such things can happen when emotions are running high.
"Sometimes that can happen when the emotions are overflowing," Werner told Sky Germany.
"Thiago also apologized directly to me the next day."
"That’s when the matter was ticked off. So I’m all the happier today, not only for her but also with the other wives of my teammates! Hopefully, I and the team can get them to cheer again. It’s for the best that the women that are at home are happy and that the fans are happy," he said.
Werner scored the opening goal for the Blues in their 2-0 victory over Real Madrid in the second leg and will now face Manchester City in the finals.
