Bundesliga 2 side Schalke 04 has released Shkodran Mustafi and Nabil Bentaleb among other four players after the club was relegated.
Mustafi joined Schalke from Arsenal at the end of the winter transfer window and will not be offered an extension to his initial six-month deal.
Former Tottenham midfielder and Newcastle loanee Bentaleb was suspended by the club earlier this season and, after a brief return in February, missed the end of the campaign after having groin surgery.
Schalke have won only three of their 33 league games this season and, back in January, narrowly avoided equalling a Bundesliga record for games without a win when they ended their streak at 30.
Schalke have confirmed they have released Shkodran Mustafi following their relegation to 2.Bundesliga, the second division of German football. However, the club did not provide an update on Sead Kolasinac & instead thanked the four other loanees that will leave the club. #afc pic.twitter.com/s1ddDFvxCh— afcstuff (@afcstuff) May 20, 2021
