Buendia to Aston Villa? Arsenal snubbed, again!

The race for Norwich's Emi Buendia is being won by Aston Villa.

According to the PA news agency, the attacker is close to a club-record move to Villa Park, which would be a big blow to Arsenal.

This week, Arsenal and Villa both made offers of roughly £30 million, and the Canaries are weighing their options.

But, according to PA, Villa has put together a strong offer for Buendia and are now the frontrunners to sign him.

Any transaction will be more than the £28 million that Brentford paid for Ollie Watkins last summer.

Arsenal, on the other hand, is still in the hunt and has long been a fan, having shown their desire during last summer's relaunch following the forced coronavirus break.

Villa, on the other hand, have scouted the 24-year-old thoroughly and watched some of his last games this season.

More on Buendia:

When Norwich returned to the Premier League for the first time this season, Buendia assisted them in winning their second Sky Bet Championship title in three seasons.

He earned his first call-up to Argentina's squad for this month's World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Colombia after scoring 15 goals and assisting 16 times.

Buendia has settled in well in Norfolk after moving from Getafe in 2018, appreciating the opportunity the Canaries have provided him, but he has always yearned to play at a higher level.

“One always dreams of being at the highest level and in the best teams in England, Spain or Europe,” Buendia told AS last month.

“One dreams of playing for titles, it is an ambition that I have, it is a pride that important clubs are interested in you, it means that you are doing things well and it is a motivation to continue working and one day achieve it.”
