📖 Erling Haaland: The story so far

📖 Erling Haaland: The story so far

Erling Haaland is very, very good at putting the ball in the back of the net and there's a growing feeling that the Norwegian goal-machine is destined to be a Ballon d'Or winner.

Born in Leeds on July 21st in the year 2000, Erling's father Alf-Inge played for Manchester City between 2000 and 2003. The signs that Haaland was born to score goals didn't take long to emerge; at the U20 World Cup in 2019 he became the first player in history to score nine goals in a single game at any World Cup tournament at any level.

Haaland scored 20 goals in 50 appearances for Molde, his first professional club, and that goal-scoring prowess caught the eye of RB Salzburg who shelled out €8m to secure his services on the first day of 2019. He spent exactly a year with the Austrian Bundesliga champs Salzburg scoring 29 times in 27 appearances, before moving to Borussia Dortmund who triggered his €20m release clause on the first day of 2020.

Erling went on a seven-game scoring streak for Dortmund from 20 October to 24 November last year, a sequence of matches in which he scored 12 goals, including six in the Champions League. The rate at which he hits the back of the net just keeps getting more frequent.

A year-and-a-half since Haaland's arrival at the Westfalenstadion and there are already persistent rumours linking him with the biggest clubs on the planet.

🤖 Haaland's vital statistics

  • 🤯 Scored NINE goals in a U20 World Cup match in 2019
  • ⚡️ Reached 20 Champions League goals in fewer games (14) than any other player in history
  • 🐝 57 goals in 59 Dortmund appearances to date
  • 🇳🇴 7 goals in 12 Norway caps to date

Erling Haaland is only 21 years old today, and it's absolutely frightening to consider how many defenders he'll bully and goals he'll score in the next decade and more.
