Where are the players that Tottenham bought with Gareth Bale money?

Erik Lamela became the last of the seven players signed by Tottenham in 2013 with the then-world-record £85 million transfer of Gareth Bale to leave when his move to Sevilla was confirmed.

Futaa takes a look at where those players are right now.

Nacer Chadli (signed from FC Twente, £7million)

The Belgian midfielder spent three years at Tottenham Hotspur, overcoming a poor and injury-plagued start to make 119 appearances before falling out of favor under Mauricio Pochettino. He joined West Brom for £13 million in 2016 and is now 31 years old, having previously played for Monaco and Anderlecht.

Vlad Chiriches (signed from Steaua Bucharest, £8.5million)

Before joining Napoli in 2015, the defender had a disappointing two years in north London. Spurs made just 43 appearances for the Romanian international, and he was sent off on his final game against Stoke City. In 2019, he signed a loan deal with Sassuolo, which he made permanent last year.

Etienne Capoue (signed from Toulouse, £9million)

Another player who struggled under Pochettino, the French midfielder only made 24 league games in two years at Spurs. However, after joining Watford for a then-club-record £6.3 million in 2015, he proved to be a major hit. He made 181 appearances for Vicarage Road before joining Villarreal in January, when the club was still in the Championship.

Christian Eriksen (signed from Ajax, £11.5million)

After suffering a heart arrest while representing Denmark at Euro 2020 this summer, he received an outpouring of support from fans all across the world. After the tragedy, which sent shockwaves across the sport, he has apparently made a decent recovery, although it is yet uncertain whether he will be able to restart his career.

After departing Tottenham in 2020, the 29-year-old is currently with Inter Milan, where he won Serie A last season. He was the most successful of the Bale replacement signings, with 69 goals and 89 assists in 305 appearances.

Paulinho (signed from Corinthians, £17million)

When Paulinho joined Barcelona in 2017, Spurs fans may have been perplexed. The Brazil midfielder was a disappointment in north London, failing to establish himself as a regular starter and eventually being transferred to Chinese club Guangzhou Evergrande for barely £9.8 million in 2016.

Despite this, his career was revitalized by the transfer, and Barca spent £36.4 million to bring him back to Europe. He got off to a promising start at the Nou Camp, but only stayed for a year before returning to Guangzhou on loan. The 33-year-old was released earlier this summer and signed a three-year agreement with Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia.

Erik Lamela (signed from Roma, £25.8million)

The Argentinian has left Spurs after only scoring in spurts. His eight years at the club were mainly inconsistent, with some fantastic highlights such as last season's magnificent rabona strike against Arsenal. In total, he made 257 appearances and scored 37 goals.

Roberto Soldado (signed from Valencia, £26million)

Before joining Villarreal in 2015, the Spanish striker failed to live up to expectations, scoring only 16 times in 76 appearances for Spurs. After stints at Fenerbahce and Granada, he joined Levante this summer.
