🔮 Yves Bissouma: Player profile of a wanted man

Brighton & Mali midfield man Yves Bissouma is being tracked by a host of elite clubs and it's not difficult to see why.

The Seagulls fended off reported interest in Bissouma from Liverpool this summer and right now, the 24-year-old looks focused on the task at hand. Under Graham Potter, Brighton plays a distinctively attractive style of possession-based football, and Bissouma is a key cog in the wheel.

🌯 Bissouma's 2020-21 season wrap

Despite arriving at the Amex Stadium back in 2018, the 2020-21 campaign was when Bissoauma really rose to the forefront of the Premier League fans' collective consciousness. He was a near ever-present, making 36 Premier League appearances, 35 of which were from the start.

Bissouma can do everything that a manager would want a central midfielder to do. He's adept as a ball-winner, forcing turnovers and starting attacks from deep, but he's just as comfortable knitting the play together when Brighton has possession of the football.

💫 Picking up where he left off

After two games of the 2021-22 Premier League season, the Seagulls are soaring as one of only five sides to boast a 100% record. Bissouma bagged an assist in the 2-0 win over Watford at the weekend, but it was the complete nature of his midfield display that earned rave reviews from around the globe.

🌐 Yves Bissouma vs Watford:

  • 🤚 70 touches
  • 📚 5 interceptions
  • 🥾 5 tackles
  • ♻️ 8x possession gained
  • 🎯 44/52 passes completed
  • 📉 85% pass success rate
  • 🅰️ Assist for Neal Maupay's goal

Bissouma is already at the peak of his physical powers and should get stronger and stronger as the season forges on towards the English autumn. Potter will have to do without his midfield lynchpin in January, however, when he jets off to Cameroon with Mali at AFCON 2021.

Make no mistake, Brighton will sorely miss him when he's gone, but the boss will be focusing on the present and an imminent meeting with Everton on the horizon. With Brighton enjoying their football and Yves Bissouma at the heart of it all, a season ticket at the Amex could turn out to be a coveted possession on the South Coast this season.
