Ole confirms starter for Wednesday night's clash against West Ham

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed Jesse Lingard will start against West Ham in the EFL Cup on Wednesday night.

Lingard came off the bench to score the winner against the Hammers on Sunday afternoon in the Premier League and will be rewarded with a place in the starting XI when David Moyes' side visit Old Trafford.

The 28-year-old was linked with a permanent move to the London club, but a move never materiliased.

"I think today was a good answer on Jesse," Ole said in his post-match press conference when asked about why he did not seal a permanent move to the Londoners.

"It was quite clear that he wants to fight for his place and want to be a part of a United team he feels is going places. For me, I can’t speak for Jesse now, but he is really contributing."

He then confirmed that Lingard will be one of the changes he will make to his side when the Hammers check into town.

"He’ll play, of course, on Wednesday because we will make a few changes," the manager explained.

The goal was a good way to end the week for Lingard, who was at fault for Young Boys' second goal in the Champions League in midweek, where United lost 2-1.
