Part of Goffert Stadium, the home ground of Eredivisie side NEC Nijmegen, collapsed on Sunday as Vitesse Arnhem fans celebrated their win over the hosts.
Arnhem players were celebrating on the pitch in front of their fans when the lowest section of the stand collapsed with about 35 fans of the away team even though no injuries were reported.
One player put his hands on his head when it happened before other players punched the air when it became apparent that nobody had been hurt.
NEC director Wilco van Schaik said of the incident: "There was a container under the stand and that prevented anything more serious."
Nijmegen Mayor Hubert Bruls added: “Luckily, as far as we know, nobody was injured. I want an investigation as quickly as possible into what happened here.
Nikolai Baden Frederiksen scored the winner in the first half to move his side up to sixth in the Eredivisie. Vitesse host Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa Conference League on Thursday.
