Lucas Hernandez went to court in Madrid and was given a voluntary prison sentence for violating a restraining order, and now the 25-year-old has ten days, until October 28, to turn himself to police and begin serving a six-month prison sentence in Spain.
His attorneys have filed an appeal, hoping to have the sentence overturned before he has to appear in court.
He had been set to appear in court on Tuesday.
Hernandez was detained in Spain in 2017 after a domestic violence incident while playing for Atletico Madrid.
He was given a community service sentence at first, and then a six-month prison sentence two years later for breaking a restraining order relating to that case.
A judge issued a restraining order against him and his partner, who is now his wife, but they disobeyed it by traveling to the United States to have their wedding.
Hernandez has made 29 appearances for France, winning the 2018 World Cup and being a part of the UEFA Nations League winning squad.
