👑 Salah on course to reach Henry's record single-season EPL goal contributions tally

Mo Salah struck a sublime pair of counter-attacking goals at Goodison Park last night in Liverpool's 4-1 win in the Merseyside Derby.

The Egyptian superstar's pace and precision finishing were too much for a retreating Lucas Digne as he raced away to expertly curl the Reds into a 2-0 lead on 19 minutes. Demarai Gray got one back for the hosts but Salah restored his team's two-goal cushion by capitalizing on a mistake from Toffees skipper Seamus Coleman with less than half an hour to play, running half the pitch unopposed and stroking the ball neatly inside Jordan Pickford's far post.

It's no surprise to see the ball hit the back of the net when it's in Salah's possession these days. The 29-year-old now has 13 Premier League goals this term. That, coupled with his eight assists, gives him a direct goal contribution tally of 21.

It means that he's got a realistic shot of hitting Thierry Henry's all-time single-season record goal contributions figure posted back in the 2002-03 campaign.

📊 Most direct goal contributions in a single EPL season

  • 🥇 44: T. Henry (2002-03)
  • 🥈 43: L. Suárez (2013-14)
  • 🥉 42: M. Salah (2017-18)
  • 4️⃣ 39: T. Henry (2004-05)
  • 4️⃣ 39: D. Drogba (2009-10)
  • 4️⃣ 39: R. Van Persie (2011-12)
  • 5️⃣ 37: H. Kane (2020-21)
  • ⌛️21*: M. Salah (after 14 games in 2021-22)

Salah already lays claim to the third-highest direct goal contributions tally of 42 from the 2017-18 season. The Reds didn't taste team success that season but Salah's total of 32 goals landed him the Golden Boot. He's exactly halfway to matching that tally with only 37% of the 2021-22 season elapsed.

Liverpool's talisman will be on the goal trail again this weekend at Molineux when his side faces Wolves.
