Granit Xhaka has resumed full training with Arsenal and could make his Premier League return against Everton on Monday night.
The Swiss midfielder sustained a serious knee injury late in September and was initially expected to miss the remainder of 2021, with the goal of simply being fit enough to train early in the new year.
Arsenal's latest fitness update, however, revealed that Xhaka has made 'excellent progress' and has been cleared by the club's medical staff to return to full-contact action.
The 29-year-old is not yet certain to start Monday's game and will need to demonstrate his fitness in the build-up, but the fact that he is already being considered for a starting spot is a huge boost for manager Mikel Arteta, who was expecting to be without Xhaka during the hectic winter schedule.
If Xhaka is declared fit, he will almost certainly start alongside one of Albert Sambi Lokonga or Mohamed Elneny.
