Sadio Mane scored the spot-kick that sent Senegal to the 2022 World Cup after a 1-1 aggregate draw in regular time over a two-legged affair that ended in Stade Me Abdoulaye Wade on Tuesday night.
The African champions needed a post-match penalty shootout to topple the Egyptians; a process in which they emerged 3-1 winners.
Senegal came into the game trailing by one goal but their fears were cooled in the third minute when Boulaye Dia scored from closed range to put the tie leveled.
Tempers boiled in the game as coaches of both teams had to be restrained from a clash as they fought battles of their own on the touchline. With the game ending on an aggregate on regular time, the tie went into extra time where Egypt had keeper El Shenawy to thank as he made two vital saves to deny Pape Abou Cisse.

Just as in the AFCON final months ago, the tie was to be decided by penalties where both captains, Koulibaly and Salah, missed their opening kicks.
Cisse was denied by El-Shenawy and Zizo fired wide. Sarr and Bamba Dieng then scored for Senegal, either side of El-Solia’s converted effort but Mohamed’s effort was saved by Mendy before Mane finished the job.
