Second-half goals by Patrick Kaddu and Allan Okello gave KCCA FC a 2-0 victory over AS Otoho on Sunday but was adequate enough to save send the City Lads to the CAF Confederations Cup group stages.
KCCA needed to overturn a 3-goal deficit and score another for a chance to progress but were undone by nature, their own striker’s laxity and the opposing keeper’s brilliance.
Muzamir Mutyaba and Patrick Kaddu were placed in better positions to score inside the first quarter but had their attempts tamed by Ngobo Mongondza in Otoho’s goal.
Allan Kyambadde had a penalty call waved on later after the half-hour turn after he seemed to have been hacked inside the box by Herman Lokolo.
The striker got a second chance to make it right as the second half started when he ran through the defense but failed to poke the ball into the net with only a keeper to beat.
Kaddu gave the frozen fans some hopes in the 63rd when he completed a Gift Ali’s pass.
Okello reduced the deficit to one goal with a late 88th minute penalty after Kyambadde was fouled inside the box.
Attempts to restart the ball quickly and force the match into penalty shootouts were futile as the Congolese held on to progress.
