Former Arsenal goalkeeper appointed assistant coach

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann has been appointed assistant coach by Bundesliga side FC Augsburg.

The 49-year-old German has signed a one-year contract that will keep him at the club until June next year.

“I am pleased that we were able to win Jens Lehmann as an assistant coach.” Said Augsburg head coach Manuel Baum.

“He is an expert who has a lot of experience.

“I’m looking forward to working with him because I’m sure he’ll enrich our team and work with the team.”

Lehmann, who won the Premier League title with Arsenal in 2004 and the FA Cup in 2005 has been out of a coaching role since leaving the Gunners last June.

Augsburg are currently 15th in the Bundesliga.
