Bayern Munich has suffered a 3-1 loss to Bayer 04 Leverkusen as they ceded more ground in the title race while Borrusia Dortmund were held to a 1-1 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Julian Brandt of Bayer 04 Leverkusen missed with his first attempt on goal in the 12th minute as his right-footed effort went wide from the left post. Bayern Munich’s effort via Kingsley Coman also did not materialize as the opposite goalkeeper made an important block. Coman had been set through by Thomas Muller.
Double attempts by Robert Lewandowski were also blocked as the polish forward got an assist from Coman but his shot from inside the box was too timid to trouble the home goalkeeper. Another chance for Lewandowski just went out as the forward attempted to find the top corner. This time around, Muller was the man delivering the ball for him.
Leon Goretzka scored the opening goal for the Bundesliga reigning champions in the 41st minute after a flurry of chances went begging. Goretzka headed from the centre of the box as he was assisted by Muller. Bayer 04 Leverkusen pulled the equalizing goal in the 51st minute from Leon Bailey. Bailey’s left-footed free-kick was too good for Ulreich to land his hand on and maybe make a save. That was not to happen and the Bayern were forced to dig deep for another goal.
Bayern Munich tumble
Leverkusen added their second goal in the 63rd minute through Kevin Volland who was assisted by Karim Bellarabi. Ulreich could not just stop the left-footed shot by the German international.
Leverkusen made Bayern’s Bundesliga journey quite hard when they scored the 3rd goal in the 87th minute. Lucas Alario was responsible for Bayern’s problems when he connected to Julian Brandt cross into the box. His left-footed shot found Ulreich’s bottom-left corner.
Meanwhile, Dortmund got the breakthrough in the 22nd minute through their outstanding captain Marco Reus whose left-footed effort inside the box could not be stopped by Kevin Trapp in goal for Eintracht Frankfurt. Raphael Guerreiro assisted Reus for the goal. Luka Jovic equalized in the 36th minute for the hosts with his right foot effort from close range. He found the bottom corner of the net as he composure ensured he made maximum use of Danny da Costa’s cross.
