Pep Guardiola has admitted that Manchester City will suffer when they face Newport in the fifth round of the FA Cup tie and added that he will not take chances by fielding a weaker team.
Man City will play the League Two side that eliminated Premier League side Leicester City and overcame Middlesborough in a two-legged encounter on Saturday. Rodney Parade stadium is known for its notoriety and Man City should be ready to face that challenge and overcome it if they have to keep their dream of a quadruple alive. Guardiola noted set pieces and throw-ins as Newport's areas of strength.
"Both their strikers score goals, they are incredible from set pieces and throw-ins. They go for the second balls and use the channels to put the ball into the box and make us defend deeper. Especially in our box, we are going to suffer because they are taller and stronger than us, so in some areas, they are better than us. We have to try and bring our game in the way we are stronger than them. Which team is going to control these areas and bring their own game? That will be the advantage to go through." Guardiola told reporters.
"We have to adapt, it is what it is. We accept the challenge. We played in the Premier League against Tottenham when days before there were two NFL games. That happened in the Premier League, why not for a team in the lower division? We have to accept it." the Spaniard manager said in regard to the expected state of the pitch.
Guardiola added that his will deploy a strong squad for the tie but ruled out the inclusion of captain Vincent Kompany and defender Benjamin Mendy.
"We are going to play a strong squad. We have a few injuries unfortunately but the other ones are fit. Of course, a few players who didn't play the last game [will play] but I prepare to try to win the game with the best squad possible." he concluded.
