Copa del Rey: Valencia book a final date with Barcelona

Valencia CF advanced to the finals of Copa del Rey with a win 1-0 win over Real Betis on Thursday night.

Following a 2-2 draw away to Betis last week, Valencia needed a goalless draw to advance to the finals and Marcelino's men put in a solid performance and claimed a 1-0 win thanks to Rodrigo's second-half goal.  A 3-2 win on aggregate saw the Spanish side reach a first major final since winning the competition in 2008.

After an evenly disputed first half, Rodrigo fired Valencia ahead in the 56th minute as Cristiano Piccini played a low pass through to Kevin Gameiro and the French forward flicked the ball across for the Spain striker to apply a simple finish from close range.

Valencia will meet Barcelona, 4-1 winners on aggregate against Real Madrid after their 3-0 victory at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday, in the final in Seville on May 25th.

The two teams drew 1-1 in October at Mestalla and then played out a 2-2 draw at the Camp Nou at the start of February.
