Ronaldo's spectacular Champions League streak ends

Ajax Amsterdam's famous win at Juventus did not only end the club's hopes of reaching another final but also brought to an end Cristiano Ronaldo's streak of appearing in nine Champions League semifinals.

The Portugal captain is considered by many as the greatest Champions League player owing to his successes in the competition and was hoping to continue his run to the finals.

Juventus seemed to be cruising to another victorious night in Turin after Cristiano gave them the lead in the first half, but tables turned quickly as Ajax levelled and took the lead, winning 2-1 on the night and 3-2 on aggregate after a one-all draw in Netherlands.

This will be the first time that Cristiano misses out on the Champions League semifinals since 2010, and the first time since 2015 to miss out in the finals.

The goal against Ajax was his 126th in Europes's elite club competition and 65th in the knockout stages, giving him an edge over Barcelona star Lionel Messi

Overall, Cristiano is the first player in history to pass the 125 mark, and holds the record of the first player to score 50 knockout goals.
