With such a wealth of attacking talent on display, towering centre backs Gerard Pique & Virgil van Dijk will have to be at the peak of their powers to keep clean sheets for their respective clubs tonight.

Barcelona vs Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League is a mouthwatering prospect even before you start to analyse the players and tactics, but there are some fascinating subplots that could determine the outcome of tonight's match. Messi's not the only one and Jurgen Klopp is under no illusion as to the size of the task ahead of his side.

South America vs Africa 🌎 🌍

Barcelona legend Lionel Messi needs no real introduction, enjoying another stellar season which has seen him score 46 goals in all competitions so far. His Uruguayan sidekick Luis Suarez has 24. Liverpool's star striking duo, Senegal's Sadio Mane & Egypt's Mo Salah, are seemingly in a race to claim the Premier League's Golden Boot award after both scored a brace in their last outing against Huddersfield. Salah leads the way with 21 from Argentine Sergio Aguero (not involved tonight obviously) and Sadio Mane, both with 20.

Philippe Coutinho & Naby Keita, Brazilian & Guinean respectively, could also both supplement their team's attacks from the start. It's clear that the best attacking talent on the planet comes from these two continents.

Messi's record against English clubs 🐐 🇦🇷 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Some of Messi's critics, crazy to consider that there are any critics at this point, have pointed to the fact that Messi's only ever succeeded in LaLiga and never ventured to other leagues. Some of them have suggested that he "can't do it on a cold night at Stoke" but his numbers against English clubs speak for themselves; 24 in 32 appearances. Watch them all below:

Ex-Liverpool boys up against their old club 🔴

Philippe Coutinho's eventual move to Barcelona didn't go down well with Liverpool fans in January last year but the club has coped relatively well and forged a new attacking identity without the Brazilian, which even came as a surprise to Jurgen Klopp. Coutinho's chances of starting tonight are in the balance, it's thought that it will be him or Ousmane Dembele joining Lionel Messi and the other ex-Liverpool star Luis Suarez. Uruguayan Suarez is Barca's second-top scorer this season and he's claimed three assists in the Champions League. Strangely, he's yet to register in the competition this season but his importance to the side is as pronounced as ever.
