The curtains fell on the English Premier League and other major leagues across Europe on Sunday, bringing an end to amazing football action.
For some players, they look forward to pre-season football and getting ready for yet another season, but for others, they played their last matches for their respective teams.
We look at some of the players whose time came to an end with the season-enders.
1. Ander Herrera
Some Manchester United fans were left an unhappy lot with news that Herrera will not sign a contract extension, and will, therefore, leave the team.
We will never forget United 🔴, for ever in our hearts ♥️. THANKS pic.twitter.com/yzP9TDq0xX— Ander Herrera (@AnderHerrera) May 12, 2019
The Spanish has been one of the key midfiled players for United since his arrival, and many could not understand why he was allowed to leave. He has been linked with moves to PSG and some teams in his home country.
2. Petr Cech
The former Chelsea great announced in late 2018 that he will hang his gloves at the end of the season, bringing an end to an amazing career spanning 15 years.
He will, however, play one more match, a Europa League final, against his former employers in Chelsea, in what will be his last match.
3. Antonio Valencia
The Manchester United Captain has not played for United since a 2-0 win at Newcastle on Jan. 2 and will leave the club after they decided against renewing his contract.
4. Robin Van Persie
After more than a decade playing in Europe's top flight leagues, the 'flying Dutchman' called it a day on Sunday, playing his last match for Feyenoord. He has had an amazing career in England, playing for Arsenal and Manchester United.
5. Diego Godin
Godin played his last match for Atletico Madrid on Sunday and might be heading to Italy with Inter Milan seemingly interested in the 33-year-old.
