Mourinho defends Paul Pogba after recent attacks

Former Manchester United manager Joes Mourinho has leapt to the defence of Paul Pogba, saying he is not to blame for the club's struggles.

The team suffered a loss of form as the season came to a close and eventually finished out of the top-four bracket, essentially ending their hopes of playing continental football next season.

Mourinho, whose relationship with the French international went sour towards the end of his tenure at United feels the player is not solely to blame for the team's struggles, taking a further dig at the club's hierarchy.

"The problems are there, you can say that these are the players, the organisation, the ambition. I only say that I cannot say yes when you ask if Paul was the only one responsible," Mourinho told L'Equipe.

The Portuguese was sacked in late 2018 after a run of poor form and a broken relationship in the dressing room, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer taking his place.

The Norwegian seemed to have had the Midas touch as the club went on a good run of nine wins in his first 10 games, before nosediving as the season came to a close.

Pogba became the target of criticism from all quarters, with fans accusing him of inconsistency.

He is rumoured to be on his way out of the club, with Real Madrid his said destination.
