Aston Villa make emphatic Premier League return with narrow win over Derby County
Aston Villa are back in the Premier League after a hard-fought 2-1 win over Derby County in the Championship play-off final at Wembley on Monday afternoon.
Villa opened the scoring just before half time when El Mohamady played a pinpoint cross into the area and Anwar El Ghazi sneaked inside Jayden Bogle, getting his head down low to meet it and steered into the bottom corner off his back!
Dean Smith's charges extended their lead 15 minutes after the break when El Ghazi's shot took a heavy deflection into Derby's goalkeeper Kelle Roos's hands who dropped it onto John McGinn's path to head into the net.
Despite enjoying a comfortable two-goal advantage, Villa took their foot off the gas which allowed Frank Lampard's men into the game with their efforts finally rewarded with nine minutes to play when Jack Marriott struck the ball into the bottom corner.
Villa make a first Premier League return for the first time since the 2015-16 season!
