Former Chelsea star Francesc Fabregas has hit out at Maurizio Sarri for not giving Gary Cahill a chance to play his last match for the Blues in their win against Arsenal on Wednesday night.
Cahill, who is set to leave the club after the current campaign, did not feature in the match and was rooted to the bench through the 90 minutes at the Baku Stadium.
Despite the huge margin towards the end of the match, Sarri did not give the former England international a chance to feature one more time for the Blues and brought Zappacosta in the 88th minute as they ran down the minutes.
"Especially it should come – and I know it’s his [Sarri’s] night, I don’t want to say anything negative tonight – but a little touch to Gary Cahill, five minutes to go, 4-1 against Arsenal, put him on, give him the armband," Fabregas told BT Sport.
"Let him leave as a proper hero as he deserves. I missed that, to be honest. But anyway, a great night for Chelsea football club,"
Cahill has had a rocky relationship with Sarri and recently hit out at the Italian for 'not respecting' what he had achieved with the club over the years.
The former Bolton man joined Chelsea in January 2012 and has left on a high having won his second Europa League title despite limited playing time.
