The Senegal national team has been rewarded for finishing second in the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
The reward, a financial package of US$ 34,000 for each player and technical staff, was presented to the team by Senegalese President Macky Sall when he received the team at State House in Dakar on Saturday evening.
The amount is exclusive of the US$ 17,000 each player had already received for reaching the final, where they fell 1-0 to Algeria.
The Lions of Teranga were chasing their first-ever continental title in Egypt and came agonizingly close.
They were one of the standout sides in the competition, with six of their players selected in the team of the tournament.
This was also their second AFCON final in their history, after losing the 2002 finals to 3-2 on penalties to Cameroon.
Despite them failing to lift the title, the home fans gave the team a hero's welcome upon arrival from Egypt.
Meanwhile, the team has been drawn against Congo, Guinea Bissau and Eswatini in Group I of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers.
