Ferdinand’s message to Manchester United over youngster Mason Greenwood

23 Jul 2019, 15:30

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand doesn’t think his former club should allow Mason Greenwood to leave on loan ahead of the new season.

Greenwood has so far impressed during pre-season netting two goals in three appearances for the Red Devils including the winner against Inter Milan on Saturday. The 17-year-old’s performance off the bench against the Nerazzurri led to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer comparing his career trajectory to that of Ryan Giggs. The United boss revealed the club might not allow the youngster to go on loan something Rio agrees with as he believes Mason is ready for more opportunities next season.

"The way to let the management known you are ready for games this season - loan...... naaaaaah!!” Rio responded to Greenwood’s shared pictures on Instagram following United’s win over Milan.

The England international made his full debut for United in their final Premier League game of last season and Solskjaer has already virtually confirmed he will be a part of the first-team squad next term.
