REPORTS: Gor Mahia line up English coach to replace Hassan Oktay

The managerial carousel at Gor Mahia as taken another turn with the club set to replace the departed Hassan Oktay with Englishman Steven Polack.

Oktay lasted only a season at Gor Mahia and despite a rocky start to his tenure, he managed to guide the club to their 18th league title and handed them their first-ever quarter-final appearance in the CAF Confederations Cup. Following reports of his resignation, K'Ogalo finally confirmed the news on their official portal.

"Kindly accept my resignation as Gor Mahia FC head coach effective today, the sixth day of August 2019. As you are aware, the decision has been forced on me by the personal challenges I am facing here in Europe.

"I wish to thank you and the entire club, including the fans for the opportunity you accorded me to manage this great club. I also wish you guys all the best in your forthcoming assignments."

Polack has had some history in managing in the continent after three stints with Ghanaian outfit Berekum Chelsea and most recently with Asante Kotoko.

Polack was born in Birmingham, England to an English mother and a father from the West Indies but holds a Finnish passport after spending most of his playing career with RoPS Rovaniemi and FC Inter Turku.

If all goes according to plan, he is set to become the third Gor Mahia manager in two years but has rubbed shoulders with former Gor Mahia coaches Frank Nutall and Zdravko Lugarusic in the Ghanaian Premier League.
