Man United rout Chelsea 4-0 in season opener

Manchester United got off to a bright start of the 2019/2020 English Premier League season with a massive 4-0 victory over Chelsea.

Two goals from Marcus Rashford and one each from Anthony Martial and Daniel James ensured United routed Chelsea at Old Trafford.

Frank Lampard was tested and found wanting in his first English Premier League experience as a manager.

Chelsea had the first clear chance when Tammy Abraham rattled the post from the edge of the box, beating goalkeeper De Gea but the ball could not find the back of the net.

Manchester United found their way to Chelsea's danger area and Kepa was called into action for the first time as Kurt Zouma's misplaced pass allowed Martial to take aim in vain.

Chelsea conceded a penalty when Kurt Zouma erronously fouled on Marcus Rashford inside the box and referee Anthony Taylor needed no VAR as he pointed straight to the penalty spot.

Rashford stepped up to it and made no mistake as he converted to give Manchester United the lead in the 18th minute.

After the break, Anthony Martial was at the right place at the right time as he applied a foot to Rashford's cross to extended Manchester United's lead in the 65th minute.

Two minutes later, while Chelsea was trying to find their breath, an accurate pass found Rashford, whose strike from outside the box, beat De Gea to put United 3-0 after 67 minutes of action.

Manchester United sealed their victory when James made good use of a pass from Paul Pogba nine minutes from time and beat De Gea to complete United's 4-0 rout on the day.
