Wazito FC defender retires from International football

Wazito FC new recruit Karim Nizigiyimana will no longer feature for the Burundi national team after calling it a day with the national team.

The player was part of the Burundi team that exited the just concluded 2019 Africa Cup of Nations hosted in Egypt in the group stage having captained the team previously before losing the armband to strike Sadio Berahinho.

Karim, as he is popularly known, joined Kenyan Premier League newbies Wazito earlier this month from Ugandan side Vipers FC; a club he joined after leaving Kenyan side Gor Mahia.


Apart from Gor Mahia and Vipers the defender prominently featured in the Rwandese league where he represented Rayon Sports, APR and SC Kiyovu.

Having spent his youthful career at Prince Louis FC, the player featured for Vital’O and Vita Club on his career too.

Known for his pinpoint crosses and marauding runs on the right flank, Karim joined Gor Mahia in 2015 from Rayon and spent a total of three years before sustaining a knee injury that ruled him out for almost a season. He was to move to Uganda with Vipers acquiring his services at the start of 2019.
