Chidozie Awaziem joins CD Leganes on season-long loan deal

Nigeria international defender Chidozie Awaziem has officially joined La Liga side CD Leganes on a season-long loan from Porto.

Awaziem was one of the Super Eagles' standout players at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations - he was Abdullahi Shehu's replacement when the latter sustained an injury against Burundi.

Porto acquired the 22-year-old during the 2014/15 season from Nigerian club Junior Elkanmei where he managed to feature in 15 games and found the back of the net once.

Awaziem was on loan at Turkish Super Lig side Rizespor before joining Leganes; he made 16 appearances for the Turkish club in the second half of the 2018/19 season.

He made his Champions League debut for Porto in a 3-2 victory at Galatasaray in December 2018.

The budding defender is the second Nigeria international defender to join Leganes in the summer transfer window after Kenneth Omeruo.
