Super Eagles midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo is nurturing a sad feeling about the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Super Eagles suffered a heartbreaking defeat to Algeria in the semifinal after Riyad Mahrez's powerful freekick goal at added time, ended Nigeria's dream of a fourth trophy.
Though the Gernot Rohr tutored side went on to beat Tunisia 1-0 to finish third, Etebo still feels disappointed.
“The (AFCON 2019) tournament was disappointing, even though we did well to reach the semi-finals." Etebo was quoted on Stoke Sentinel.
“It was a big blow at the end because Algeria scored the winning goal with 10 seconds to go and there was nothing we could do. I was sure we were going into extra-time and we would win the game because they looked dead on the pitch.
“But it’s football. When we played South Africa in the quarter-finals we scored our own winning goal in the last minute, so it happens.” Etebo said.
The 23-year-old made a lively cameo from the bench in Stoke City’s 1-0 win over Wigan in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.
