Ryan Giggs on what he told Solskjaer about signing Daniel James

Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs has emerged as key man behind the summer transfer window signing of Daniel James to Old Trafford.

United signed James from Swansea City in June 2019 in a deal that was worth £15million and he was deemed to be an exciting signing for the side.

The Wales national team manager told Premier League Productions (via Talksport) that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer approached about the 21-year-old as Giggs was the one who handed James his international debut.

“Ole asked me about him and I just told him that he is a player with plenty of potential," he said.

“He’s really quick, a great lad, someone who you want in the dressing room, a great character.

“So, it was a no-brainer really, because he is a talent.”

James has seen some quick success in the Manchester United squad having scored in the 4-0 thriller against Chelsea in the season operner - what a way for a player to make his maiden debut.

“From a standing start he is quick and he will beat anyone," Giggs added further.

“It’s just that, like any other young winger, the finishing touches, that final ball, scoring more goals, which he will get better at.

“I watched him a lot for Swansea last year and he ripped nearly every full-back in that division apart.”
